What is Milk Thistle Extract Powder?

It is a concentrated extract from the seeds of Silybum marianum, a flowering plant endemic to Mediterranean areas. The extract is standardised to its active chemical complex, Silymarin, which is a group of flavonolignans that include Silybin, Isosilybin, Silydianin and Silychristin.

The powder was lipophilic, soluble in ethanol, methanol, and acetone but nearly insoluble in water. Its yellowish-brown colour and harsh flavour provide evidence of the high content of bioactive chemicals.

The extract is hygroscopic and light sensitive and should be stored in hermetically sealed containers that are resistant to light and at a temperature below 25 °C to retain potency for the 36 month shelf life.
